Appearance

Species: Puella Magi - (Human originally)

Physical Description: Naoko looks younger than her age, and doesn’t have too much of a figure. Overall she’s very average, in build and appearance. Her most distinguishing feature would be her large golden eyes. She has mid length reddish brown hair, that she usually wears in a pair of pigtails to keep out of the way. She prefers the skirt and poncho version of the uniform, with a pair of black sneakers. Her soul gem is orange and worn as a ring on her left index finger. Her more casual clothes are mostly a lot of shorts and hoodies. Her skintone is middish pale.

In her transformed form, Naoko is a four inches taller, and looks a little older. Her soul gem shifts to the right side of her upper thigh. She wears strappy shorts with knee high boots trimmed in lace, and a cropped jacket with ¾ length, flowing sleeves. The colors are dark blue with gold. Her weapon is a staff, with a crystal orb on each end.

Abilities

Special Abilities:

Transformation - She can access a powered up “Magical Girl” form that changes her appearance and boosts her physical abilities and access to her magic. She also gets a staff from it. Unfortunately, transforming drains her gem faster than it passively regenerates, so she can’t hold it indefinitely. It has a max of between 2 and 20 hours based on how much other magic she's using.

Magic - Naoko can… theoretically cast a variety of spells limited by her imagination and tied to her soul gem as a power source. Mostly she doesn’t due to the risk of dying from overdoing it. She could maybe do one or two big flashy spells at current or around 20 smaller ones before needing some recharge time.

Lunch in Peace - Naoko’s specialized ability is to create bubbles around others, or barriers impervious to sound around herself. The bubbles are tied to boxed lunches of various kinds she summons, and last until the meal is consumed. If she’s not actively eating the meal for more than five minutes, the effect will wear off on its own.

While enclosed in the bubbles the victims can’t escape without the aid of barrier breaking magic of some kind or another, and sound cannot get out. Air gets in and out fine however. Magic. Naoko can currently make up to 10 bubbles at a time, but aiming them is a bit harder.

Physiology:
As a Puella Magi, Naoko has had her soul removed from her body and crystallized into a small gem. In her normal form, the gem is worn on her finger as a ring. If she’s distanced too far from her gem, she’ll lose the ability to control her body and it’ll soon start to decay until she returns. If her soul gem is destroyed, she’ll just die.

The soul gem takes a constant amount of magic to maintain her body, her control of it, and her life. If she starts to go dangerously low on magic she’ll lose the ability to move. Fortunately, Hesnia’s ambient magic is enough to counteract the passive drain, so as long as she doesn’t overdo it with the magic she’s safe enough.

The benefits are that she can directly control how much pain she feels, as well as use magic to manipulate her bodies appearance. Also she doesn’t feel the negative effects from pushing her body past normal limits (not eating, not sleeping, too much physical strain)

If her soul gem drains completely, she’ll transform into a monster known as a witch, and be dead for most intents and purposes.

Personality: Really, Naoko’s a little boring. She doesn’t like putting in a lot of effort, but she’s also responsible and very cynical. She doesn’t trust people super easily, and when she does she takes perceived betrayals super personally. She’s the type of person who follows the exact letter of homework assignments with no extra effort. She doesn’t much like taking risks either, but is starting to hate herself a little for her refusal to do anything but play it safe. She’s not particularly talkative either, and prefers to sit on the sidelines making occasional snarky commentary than participating.

History: A cautious girl, Naoko wanted nothing more than a normal, secure life. She’d go to school, get good grades, eat her lunch… Naoko really liked lunch. Her parents worked all day, but her mother always made sure to pack Naoko’s lunch by hand. Naoko adored these lunches… unfortunately, her parents were also forging a powerful business empire Naoko was poised to inherit. This gave her a high amount of potential that attracted the alien force known as the contractors.

At first, Naoko refused. What did she need? Aside from her parents being around more, but a weird cat thing couldn’t give her that. Or so she thought anyway. Running around all day saving people seemed like too much trouble anyway.

But Kyubey was crafty, and ate the girl’s lunch. With a frustrated cry of “I wish I could eat my lunch in peace!” The contract was sealed.

It… wasn’t all bad. Naoko fell in with a magical girl team fairly quickly, and in their company she had friends for the first time in… ever. Of course, magical girls grow up into witches, and being in a team meant discovering that was inevitable. Angrily, their leader fell into research, and discovered the fate truly was inescapable… in their dimension. After making use of a member’s scrying powers, they discovered a magical rich world where you didn’t have to fight over and hoard magic. Banding together, they combined their powers to create a portal to escape to a better life.

Unfortunately, the power cost was higher than they could have imagined. One by one, their soul gems drained, dooming them. Naoko, being the weakest, was the one with the least toll on her specifically. With her last strength, the girl next to her shoved her through the portal. Naoko passed out, thinking she was done since her soul gem was too drained of magic for her to move. To Naoko’s surprise… she woke up. With more of a charge in her gem even? The hospital directed their former Jane Doe to Brookview Academy as a place for a young person to stay and learn. Figuring why the hell not, Naoko enrolled.
